Benchmark institutions are used to assess UK's standing in such areas as tuition, faculty salaries, diversity, and retention and graduation rates. Analysis of benchmark institutions informs decision-making to promote programmatic change and enhancements. Prior to 2009-2010, benchmark analysis was based on 19 institutions identified by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. Beginning in 2009-2010, the University of Kentucky started using the Top 20 Business Plan institutions as the standard comparison group for all benchmark analyses. The University Review Committee identified the current set of 11 benchmark universities in 2011. The three lists of institutional benchmarks are provided below.
